A Season to Celebrate Safety: Helpany and the “No Fall” Model

Here in Arizona, fall may not bring crisp air and sweaters, but it does bring the return of pumpkin lattes and the traditions we all enjoy. Yet for seniors, the word “fall” has another meaning. Each year, over 800,000 older adults are hospitalized due to falls, most often from head injuries or hip fractures.

At Westminster Village, protecting our residents from that kind of fall is our number one goal. That is why we have introduced Helpany’s innovative Paul system, a radar-based technology that works quietly behind the scenes. Paul does not use cameras or microphones, but instead leverages radar technology to monitor movement and sleep patterns to recognize and even predict a change in a resident’s health condition. Once that change has been identified, Helpany alerts caregivers in real time when assistance may be needed based on resident movement in their apartment. Communities using Paul have seen falls reduced by as much as 70 percent in just a few months.

“With Helpany, we help provide peace of mind for our residents and their families through leveraging technology and innovation.”

— Brad Edmunds, LNHA, Vice President of Health Services

For our residents, that means greater confidence in their daily lives. They can enjoy the season, whether that is sipping a latte, gathering with friends, or simply relaxing at home, knowing that safety is always a priority. For families, it is reassurance that Westminster Village is more than a beautiful place to live; it is a community that invests in innovation to protect and support the people who call it home.

At Westminster Village, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment. Helpany’s Paul system strengthens that commitment, allowing residents to enjoy their daily lives with confidence while families have confidence in the care their loved ones receive.
